The Milwaukee Art Museum has announced a newly acquired work from artist Taryn Simon, which will be on view Dec. 1 in recognition of World AIDS Day.
The photograph art, entitled "Live HIV," was purchased with funds from the Johnson & Pabst LGBT Humanity Fund at the Greater Milwaukee Foundation, and depicts a vial of the live HIV virus taken at a Harvard University research laboratory.
The image was previously on display during the museum's exhibition "Taryn Simon: Photographs and Texts."
As part of its participation in World AIDS Day, the MAM will exhibit "Live HIV" free to the public Saturday, Dec. 1. The day will also feature a special lecture, "HIV in 2012: Hidden and Unfamiliar."
Simon's photograph will remain on view in the Contemporary Galleries through Dec. 9.
