In addition to opening a major new exhibition in June, Milwaukee Art Museum is also kicking off the new Lakeside at MAM on the museum campus' east lawn, facing Lake Michigan.
On Thursday, June 17, the museum will debut Lakeside at MAM on the east lawn, and at the same time expand its opening hours by adding Thursday back to the mix. The museum will be open Thursday-Sunday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
Lakeside at MAM will be a space where the public can – during museum hours – chill, nosh, have a drink and experience a mix of programming on the lawn and the museum patio area nearby.
Part of that programming includes art-making activities outdoors with the Kohl’s Art Studio staff.
There will be seating where visitors can snack on food and drink purchased from the museum’s East End.
“Americans in Spain: Painting and Travel, 1820–1920," co-organized with the Chrysler Museum of Art in Norfolk, Virginia, and including works by American painters who studied the Old Masters at Madrid’s Prado Museum: Mary Cassatt, William Merritt Chase, Robert Henri and John Singer Sargent, opens at the museum on June 11.
Details of the Lakeside programming are expected to be announced soon.
“It feels wonderful to announce this range of new experiences for the summer,” said MAM Deputy Director and Chief Experience Officer, Robert Stein. “The anticipation of welcoming more people back to the Museum as the weather warms is palpable. The addition of major exhibitions, expanded hours and more opportunities to be together again is something we’ve all been waiting for.
“Lakeside at MAM is an especially exciting new way for the public to connect with the Museum while enjoying safe time together outside."
