To the delight of local hobbyists and craftsters, Loop Yarn Shop opened in Bay View  in September 2004. Now, owner Caitlin Walsh moves the store to 2963 N. Humboldt Blvd., in Riverwest, as of Wednesday, Nov. 21.

According to Molly Snyder Edler's 2005 interview, Walsh's quaint little shop offered every little thing you'd need to knit a scarf, including boocoo balls of yarn and accessories, hooks, needles, "The Stitch 'n Bitch Knitter's Handbook," as well as baby beret kits and handmade garments like skinny scarves, ponchos, hipster granny pins and shawls.

Walsh says the store's success the past few years necessitated expanding into a new location. As of today, Loop is located inside the new building that will soon house Alterra's roastery. The new phone number is (414) 265-2312.

Loop is closed on Thanksgiving, but it's regular hours are 10 a.m.-7 p.m., Tuesday through Friday and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. It's closed Monday.

Julie Lawrence Special to OnMilwaukee.com

OnMilwaukee.com staff writer Julie Lawrence grew up in Wauwatosa and has lived her whole life in the Milwaukee area.

As any “word nerd” can attest, you never know when inspiration will strike, so from a very early age Julie has rarely been seen sans pen and little notebook. At the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee it seemed only natural that she major in journalism. When OnMilwaukee.com offered her an avenue to combine her writing and the city she knows and loves in late 2004, she knew it was meant to be. Around the office, she answers to a plethora of nicknames, including “Lar,” (short for “Larry,” which is short for “Lawrence”) as well as the mysteriously-sourced “Bill Murray.”
