Sorry friends, there's no podcast accompanying the local music blog this week. Brent's been swamped with WMSE's spring membership drive lately, but we'll most likely be back in the studio next week.

Hope everyone got out to the Murder By Death show at Marquette's Union Sports Annex on Friday and the Maritime show at Turner Hall on Saturday.

As for this week, here's what we're looking at. Today, Sunday, May 4, you've got the benefit concert Double WAMI JAM 4 S.A.M.I  starting at 2 p.m. at The Rave. There'll be nine WAMI-nominated acts performing and raising money for ailing musicians in Wisconsin. Good stuff.

Later on tonight, head over to The Mad Planet for Father Phoenix, who is opening for Dead Meadow at 9 p.m.

Skipping ahead to next Friday, May 9, the overtly Huxley-inspired John the Savage is playing at the Cactus Club. As for openers Pistols at Dawn and Squidbotz, I got nothin'.

The following day, Milwaukee's own The Celebrated Working Man opens a big show for Margot & The Nuclear So & So's! What are you going to do until then? Go outside, it's May.

Julie Lawrence Special to OnMilwaukee.com

OnMilwaukee.com staff writer Julie Lawrence grew up in Wauwatosa and has lived her whole life in the Milwaukee area.

As any “word nerd” can attest, you never know when inspiration will strike, so from a very early age Julie has rarely been seen sans pen and little notebook. At the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee it seemed only natural that she major in journalism. When OnMilwaukee.com offered her an avenue to combine her writing and the city she knows and loves in late 2004, she knew it was meant to be. Around the office, she answers to a plethora of nicknames, including “Lar,” (short for “Larry,” which is short for “Lawrence”) as well as the mysteriously-sourced “Bill Murray.”
