Lakefront Brewery has announced that its fourth annual gluten-free Maifest outdoor beer, food, art and craft event will take place Sunday, May 18, from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the brewery, 1872 N. Commerce St.
In addition to its acclaimed gluten-free beers, there will be nine food trucks and a marketplace with more than 30 vendors, all along the Milwaukee River.
"What started out as an accommodation for local celiacs, has grown to supply over half the country with gluten-free beer options," the announcement notes. "Over the years, Lakefront began to understand how underserved the regional gluten-free community was.
"The first Maifest was an instant success, since then, they’ve released an IPA version of their New Grist and converted their CurdWagon food truck to be exclusively gluten-free. Now in its fourth year, Lakefront is focusing their Maifest efforts to celebrate gluten-free food offerings."
In addition to the New Grist IPA, Lakefront makes gluten-free New Grist Pilsner and New Grist Gosa Rita margarita ale. The beers are also available in a gluten-free 12-pack of cans.
“After we’ve innovated the craft beer space with Certified Gluten-Free options, we wanted to continue doing positive things for the gluten-free community. Hosting Maifest and turning our CurdWagon into an exclusively gluten-free food truck for the summer months both feel like natural progressions to me,“ said Lakefront Brewery Owner & President Russ Klisch.
“Lakefront Brewery is happy to lead and continue to be that provider.”
In addition to the beer, there will be gluten-free Bloodys and four gluten-free cask beers available while supplies last, which likely means "not long."
The cask beers are Mango Chile Gosa Rita, Honey Saffron New Grist IPA, Arnold Palmer New Grist and Mimosa New Grist.
The food trucks will serve all gluten-free foods and Lakefront will offer gluten-free cookies and cream fried cheese curds, which they say could become a summer menu staple.
Gluten Intolerance Group (with Cutting Costs for Celiacs) and the Celiac Disease Center at Children’s Wisconsin will be the beneficiaries of a 50/50 raffle.
Well-behaved canine pals welcomed.
