On the "Packers Game Day" pregame show Sunday morning on the Packers Radio Network, I gave a series of predictions about the game. Unlike most weather forecasters, I am more than willing to circle back to see how I did and admit when I was wrong.
My predictions can be as misleading as those Toby Keith commercials for Ford. Do you really think he operates forklifts, chops wood and lays bricks between his concert appearances? Do you really think he carries a lunch pail to the recording studio?
Anyway, here's what I predicted:
Vernand Morency will rush for more than 100 yards.
Result: Right stat, wrong guy. Noah Herron rushed for 106 yards and a touchdown. Morency was yanked after his fumble set up the Rams first touchdown and he almost coughed it up again. Morency finished with 15 yards on six carries. By the way, with the Packers trailing 20-13 early in the fourth quarter, why was Morency back in and Herron on the sideline? That was a critical drive. Herron was the hot guy and should have been on the field.
Koren Robinson will have a big day.
Result: Not really. Four catches for 42 yards. There were some chances to make a difference but Robinson and Favre clearly are still getting used to each other. Greg Jennings continues to sparkle, grabbing 5 catches for 105 yards and a touchdown. Donald Driver played hurt but wasn't much of a factor, making three catches for 24 yards.
The Packers will pick off Marc Bulger twice with Al Harris and Charles Woodson each getting an interception.
Result: Bulger got out of the game still without throwing an interception this season but both Harris and Woodson dropped possible picks right in their hands.
The Packers will win the game 27-24 with a field goal in overtime by Dave Rayner.
Result: The Packers were on track to tie the game at 23 and send the game into overtime until Favre fumbled and Daryn Colledge couldn't fall on it.
So, my game prediction was almost right -- but, it was wrong. The Packers almost won -- but they lost.
Someday, remind me to tell you about the time I was working in Illinois back in the mid-'80s, and I picked the Bears to lose the Super Bowl to New England.
