Country music superstar Keith Urban paid a visit to Milwaukee on Sunday night for his headlining “The Speed of Now" world tour at the American Family Insurance Amphitheater. Joined by rising star Ingrid Andress, the “Somebody Like You” singer returned to the Summerfest grounds for a night of live music by the lakefront.
Whether it’s his catalog of hits dating back over two decades ago or if you were just intrigued by the free Mexican Fiesta admission that came with all tickets, there were several reasons why the AmFamAmp was the place to be on Sunday night – but we will just hit you with a few.
Here are our six reasons why you shouldn’t have missed Keith Urban’s performance in Milwaukee last night.
1. It was his first show in Milwaukee since 2016
It had been quite some time since Keith Urban had rocked a crowd in Milwaukee – so much so that the venue he performed at no longer exists. In 2016, Urban brought his "Ripcord" tour to the BMO Harris Bradley Center, about two years before the building was replaced by Fiserv Forum. A lot has changed since 2016, but two things that haven’t are Keith Urban’s hair and his ability to completely own a crowd of screaming fans.
2. He’s a Summerfest favorite
Keith Urban is no stranger to the Big Gig. With memorable Summerfest performances in 2015, 2009 and 2005, Urban has been a staple throughout the festival grounds longer than some fans in attendance last night have been alive.
3. The hits were endless
Urban delivered a 20-plus song setlist on Sunday, making sure everyone in attendance enjoyed their favorite song. With classics like “Somebody Like You," “The Fighter," “Blue Ain’t Your Color” and “Long Hot Summer" – all which made the cut on Sunday night – Urban’s performance was full of hit singles from start to finish.
4. It was the last huge outdoor country concert of the season
Although the elements weren’t ideal due to rain and high winds, the show went on and music fans were able to enjoy some live music outdoors on Sunday night. Many fans were able to stay dry throughout the mostly covered Amphitheater, reminding us that catching a concert outside is an unmatched experience, even during a rainstorm.
5. Fans received free admission to Mexican Fiesta
Worlds and cultures collided yesterday, as Wisconsinites enjoyed an Australian singer performing songs from an American-rooted genre after enjoying food and music next door at Mexican Fiesta. It was an unlikely but awesome combo as all fans with tickets to Keith Urban’s performance were treated to free admission to the Summerfest grounds festival before the show.
6. Ingrid Andress performed her big Sam Hunt collab
Keith Urban always selects the best of the best when choosing an opening act for his headlining tour. Last time around, he brought Maren Morris and Brett Eldredge to Milwaukee for his show at the BMO Harris Bradley Center, and this time he was joined by rising country star Ingrid Andress. Andress performed an opening set to warm up the crowd, which included her addictive Sam Hunt collaboration, "Wishful Drinking."
