Jodie Foster's win last night at the Golden Globes was surprising. Even more surprising? Who she thanked during her speech: Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
The actress and four-time Golden Globe winner gave the newly crowned three-time MVP a shoutout Sunday night after winning the award for Best Supporting Actress for her turn in the Guantanamo Bay drama "The Mauritanian," thanking her wife Alexandra Hedison, her dog Ziggy and then Aaron Rodgers – complete with a fistpump. She'd then go on to thank the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the actual organization that runs the awards show and gave her the award in the first place, but honestly that seems like the correct order of importance to me.

So why is the two-time Oscar winner giving Aaron Rodgers a namedrop at the Globes?
First of all, despite being born, raised and living in Los Angeles, Foster is a well-documented Packers fan. But this goes beyond simple fandom as Foster was actually just returning the favor as Rodgers originally thanked the "Silence of the Lambs" actress in his MVP acceptance speech last month – despite the fact that, according to Foster, the two have never met. She is, however, good acquiantances with Shailene Woodley, Rodgers' fiancee as well as her on-screen co-star in "The Mauritanian," so maybe that's how the two ended up on each other's acceptance speech shortlist.
No matter the odd behind-the-scenes explanation, it was a fun and enjoyable moment, so allow me to thank Jodie Foster and Aaron Rodgers for an all-too-brief second of genuine amusement during an otherwise trashfire of a three-hour awkward Zoom call. And though Foster would be lucky to be nominated at the Oscars – much less win – for a solid but mostly lukewarm-received movie, stay tuned to see if Rodgers gets a similar shoutout come April.
As much as it is a gigantic cliché to say that one has always had a passion for film, Matt Mueller has always had a passion for film. Whether it was bringing in the latest movie reviews for his first grade show-and-tell or writing film reviews for the St. Norbert College Times as a high school student, Matt is way too obsessed with movies for his own good.
When he's not writing about the latest blockbuster or talking much too glowingly about "Piranha 3D," Matt can probably be found watching literally any sport (minus cricket) or working at - get this - a local movie theater. Or watching a movie. Yeah, he's probably watching a movie.
