She wears many hats -- singer, songwriter, actress, poet, painter, philanthropist -- but the name Jewel will always be associated with her 1995 breakthrough debut album "Pieces of You," which went platinum 12 times.
The Pabst Theater welcomes her to Milwaukee on Thursday, June 3 for an 8 p.m. show.
The Alaska-born songstress doesn't have a new album out yet, but she does have one in the works for release this summer. Its first single, "Stay Here Forever," is featured on the soundtrack to this year's "Valentine's Day" movie.
In 2009, Jewel independently released "Lullaby," a collection of lullabies for children and adults.
Tickets for her solo acoustic Milwaukee performance are $45 and go on sale Friday, April 23 at 12 p.m.
OnMilwaukee.com staff writer Julie Lawrence grew up in Wauwatosa and has lived her whole life in the Milwaukee area.
As any “word nerd” can attest, you never know when inspiration will strike, so from a very early age Julie has rarely been seen sans pen and little notebook. At the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee it seemed only natural that she major in journalism. When OnMilwaukee.com offered her an avenue to combine her writing and the city she knows and loves in late 2004, she knew it was meant to be. Around the office, she answers to a plethora of nicknames, including “Lar,” (short for “Larry,” which is short for “Lawrence”) as well as the mysteriously-sourced “Bill Murray.”
