When "The View" on ABC announced this week that Jenny McCarthy would join the cast, it didn’t surprise me. The former Playboy model and TV personality appeared multiple times on the daytime talk show.

What did surprise me was the number of outlets making a bigger deal out of people worried she would use the platform to preach her ideals – mainly against vaccinations for children.

The woman is being judged on her beliefs rather than her ability.

"By choosing Jenny McCarthy to be a host on ‘The View,’ ABC made a decision that could end up costing lives – even worse, the lives of children," wrote Dr. Claire McCarthy on Boston.com.

"Jenny McCarthy believes that vaccines caused her son to be autistic. Never mind that it's not clear that he was actually autistic, none of the claims she has made about vaccines and autism are backed up by, um, any medical evidence. But that doesn't stop Jenny McCarthy from making those claims very publicly."

Some people want to start the sirens ringing, boycott the station and put everyone on notice.

"I know it’s your impulse to look out for yourself and not scream about something most people already agree with, but right now, this is a matter of national security," wrote Mack Rawden on cinemablend.com.

"We all need your aggressiveness and your sensible point of view. Let it be known to those you care about that you stand for vaccinating your children. Every single voice counts, especially now that McCarthy will be delivering her message to millions every day."

Apparently McCarthy will be too busy with her own personal agenda that she won’t have time to interview guests, talk about hot topics and show some love to Whoopi Goldberg’s shoes. Ummm. I’m guessing this won’t be the case.

I’ve seen McCarthy guest host on the show and only brought up the vaccination issue when she was asked a question about it. Now that she’ll be filling one of the two vacant spots made with the departure of Elisabeth Hasselbeck and Joy Behar, people are flailing about, ignoring what the job entails.

Hasselbeck was known for her conservative values and being a member of the GOP. In September, she’ll be among her peers at the Fox News Network. Joy Behar was at the other end of the political spectrum, known for being liberal, yet able to make jokes about politicians on both sides of the aisle. Sometimes their views came out on "The View." That’s part of the job. The other part is playing the role of host, allowing others to give their views.

McCarthy hosted on the show 17 times. After any of those airings, was there a massive drop in vaccinations of children?

She has connected with our audience and offers a fresh point of view. Jenny will be a great addition to the show as we usher in an exciting new chapter for ‘The View.’"
