In March, we brought you the news that Screaming Tuna’s Chef Jason Morimoto (who shares the same last name, but is not related to chef Masaharu Morimoto) would be competing on the second season of “Morimoto’s Sushi Master” on the Roku Channel.

Well, we are excited to announce that, following the release of all six episodes of the season on Friday, April 25, we now know that Chef Morimoto has been named the winner and “Sushi Master” of the show’s second season.

Morimoto, the executive chef of Screaming Tuna Mequon and former executive chef for Screaming Tuna Milwaukee, competed against seven chefs from across the country, winning a variety of Japanese cooking challenges over the course of six episodes to advance to the finals.

To reel in the prize, Morimoto won the Omakase challenge with eight-courses including: Seared Salmon Belly, Mofongo, Grilled Kinmedai, Seared Wagyu, Tai Nigiri, Clam Nigiri, Kamasu Nigiri, and Uni Nigiri.

Following his winning Omakase showdown, he was crowned “Sushi Master” by sushi master and “Iron Chef” Masaharu Morimoto, bringing home the $25,000 grand prize.

“We couldn’t be happier for Chef Jason, truly in awe. He was THE chef to beat, winning or placing in nearly every challenge,” said Cristian Vega, owner of Screaming Tuna Mequon and Milwaukee. “We can’t wait for what comes next.”

To celebrate Chef Jason Morimoto’s victory — and his role in helping elevate Wisconsin’s dining scene to a national stage — Screaming Tuna is hosting a series of watch parties at the Mequon Public Market.  Tickets are available online.

Following the final watch party, Chef Jason will launch an evolution of his popular omakase dinner series, titled “Weekend At J’s,” starting Friday, June 6. Watch for tickets at screamingtuna.com

Both seasons of "Morimoto’s Sushi Master" are available to stream for free on The Roku app.
