Like all J.J. Abrams films, the marketing for "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" has been secretive as all hell, leaving fans asking "Please sir, may I have some more?" with their best Oliver Twist impressions. After the third very vague – and very exciting – teaser trailer, the buzz was that would be the last footage we'd see before the actual movie comes out.
Well that turned out to be bantha poodoo, because this morning a Japanese trailer emerged with a whole lot of new footage. Here's the video.
Just like the other trailers, everything here looks great (the opening shot alone is better than pretty much anything from the prequels. And that gorgeous shot of the TIE Fighters in the sun, ARE YOU KIDDING ME WITH THAT?!). We get to actually hear sure-to-be Christmas toy of the year BB-8 speak a bit, a few more shots of the new Darth Vader-praising villain Kylo Ren and his cross lightsaber, still not much plot information and ... still no Luke Skywalker, whose role in this film is slowly becoming the worst-kept secret in Hollywood (as with most of J.J. Abrams' secrets).
Still, it looks great, and I can't wait to see it when it comes out on Dec. 18. In the meantime, here's another video to hold you over: the Milwaukee-based movie guys Red Letter Media predicting what they think will happen in "The Force Awakens" based on the four total minutes of footage we've seen. Warning: There's no spoilers here, but all of their guesses sound so right on that they almost feel like spoilers.
As much as it is a gigantic cliché to say that one has always had a passion for film, Matt Mueller has always had a passion for film. Whether it was bringing in the latest movie reviews for his first grade show-and-tell or writing film reviews for the St. Norbert College Times as a high school student, Matt is way too obsessed with movies for his own good.
When he's not writing about the latest blockbuster or talking much too glowingly about "Piranha 3D," Matt can probably be found watching literally any sport (minus cricket) or working at - get this - a local movie theater. Or watching a movie. Yeah, he's probably watching a movie.
