A new documentary about James Foley has been purchased by HBO and set for a Saturday, Feb. 6 televised debut on the network.
The doc, "Jim: The James Foley Story," tells the life story of the journalist and Marquette alum who was kidnapped in 2012 while working as a freelance war correspondent in Syria and, two years later, was brutally murdered by ISIS on video in 2014. The film comes from Brian Oakes, a close childhood friend of Foley's.
"I made this film to carry on the stories that Jim needed us to know," Oakes told The Wrap. "It’s important that we understand the significant role of today’s conflict journalists and why they risk their lives to tell the world how bad it can be."
"Jim" will make its official world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, later this month. I will actually be attending this year's Sundance, and plan to see the film at one of its screenings there, so stay tuned to OnMilwaukee for more on the documentary.
As much as it is a gigantic cliché to say that one has always had a passion for film, Matt Mueller has always had a passion for film. Whether it was bringing in the latest movie reviews for his first grade show-and-tell or writing film reviews for the St. Norbert College Times as a high school student, Matt is way too obsessed with movies for his own good.
When he's not writing about the latest blockbuster or talking much too glowingly about "Piranha 3D," Matt can probably be found watching literally any sport (minus cricket) or working at - get this - a local movie theater. Or watching a movie. Yeah, he's probably watching a movie.
