For 25 years, the Milwaukee-based Midwest Express (and then Midwest Airlines) delivered the best care in the air – and, most importantly, chocolate chip cookies – before flying too close to the sun and arriving at its final destination, landing its last flight in November 2009.

Or so we thought – because if a new website is to be believed, this phoenix may be rising from the ashes soon.

According to flymidwestexpress.com, "Plans are underway to bring back the iconic Midwest Express Airlines," announcing its attempted return complete with a mock-up of a new-look Midwest Express plane and a slightly altered version of the airlines' original logo. And although the website is very limited on any detailed plans (re: there are none) or specific information on progress – just vaguely saying that, "We are currently finalizing our plans" – it is indeed real.

The website and plan to resurrect Midwest Express is the creation of Curt Drumm, the president of Lakeshore Aviation out of Manitowoc County Airport. In a conversation with OnMilwaukee, Drumm had no further official details to share on the beloved brand's return, but confirmed that the website and plans inside are legitimate and that more information is to come soon after key investors and other details for the airline's revival are locked in and finalized.

For now, the website does include a short explanation for the brand's rebirth, beyond cozy nostalgia:

"With fewer flights out of Milwaukee's Mitchell International Airport (MKE), and even fewer non-stop destinations, travel has become more of a hassle. Add long connections, service fees and crowded planes, it's just not fun anymore. Many other mid-size airports face the same problem, too.

"That's why we're working hard to bring back Midwest Express. ..."

The site then goes on to say the new Midwest Express will bring convenient destinations (because, while Mitchell International Airport has gained flights on the coasts, non-stop service to some Midwest cities – like Indianapolis, Omaha and Louisville – has halted), roomy seats, Wi-Fi, friendly staff, yada yada yada, who cares, let's get to the important part:

"(Oh, and by the way, we haven't forgotten the cookies!)"

Hallelujah!

So break out the celebratory cookies, watch this old Midwest Express ad and stay tuned OnMilwaukee for more news as it becomes available.

As much as it is a gigantic cliché to say that one has always had a passion for film, Matt Mueller has always had a passion for film. Whether it was bringing in the latest movie reviews for his first grade show-and-tell or writing film reviews for the St. Norbert College Times as a high school student, Matt is way too obsessed with movies for his own good.

When he's not writing about the latest blockbuster or talking much too glowingly about "Piranha 3D," Matt can probably be found watching literally any sport (minus cricket) or working at - get this - a local movie theater. Or watching a movie. Yeah, he's probably watching a movie.
