The idea that hospital food is, at best, tasteless and boring, is a common one, but Milwaukee area hospitals won't stand idly by and let people badmouth their eats.
Instead, they're putting their best food forward in a head-to-head competition against their fellow care facilities, and helping to raise some money for a good cause while they're at it.
On Saturday, May 21, the Tommy G. Thompson Center at Wisconsin State Fair Park will host the Hospital Food Fight to benefit Stillwaters Cancer Support Services, which provides professional counseling and support at no cost to cancer patients and families.
No actual food fighting will be on offer, but area hospitals will submit a hot main dish that could be served in the hospital to be rated by celebrity judges. Ted Perry from Fox 6 News will emcee, and Milwaukee restaurateur Joe Bartolotta will serve as the Food Fight's honorary chair.
Attendees will be able to sample food and beverages from area hospitals, too, as well as items from local restaurants and grocery stores. Kids can also keep busy with craft projects, games, face painting and balloon animals.
Registration is available online for $45 for adults, or $25 for past and current Stillwaters clients. Children under 12 get in free.
