Are you looking for a bar to call home? Well, Home, 2659 S. Kinnickinnic Ave., is setting out to make you feel welcome and at ease. Open since October, this new upscale bar has replaced the 16-year-old KK Lounge.
Having undergone a complete face lift , Home is warm, with wood floors and lavender stucco walls. It is bedecked with sleek chairs and chrome tables decorated with flowers. Candles and strung lights illuminate the space.
Sophisticated and cozy, the atmosphere at Home is perfect for a first date or cocktailers looking for a relaxing place to enjoy good drinks and a conversation. With over 70 beers, 14 wines -- from Wisconsin, California and abroad -- nine high-end tequilas and a multitude of martinis, Home gives you plenty to choose from at reasonable prices.
For small groups celebrating a birthday or other jovial event, they offer their signature drink, The Dream. This amazing concoction, a mystery potion set on ice and served in a gigantic martini glass, is meant to be shared and is offered on the house for birthdays.
As Bay View flourishes with a new community of young professionals, a few spots have been popping up to put this neighborhood on the map as one of the emerging hotspots for Milwaukee nightlife. Run by Milwaukee natives Sonja Seebacher and Todd Brown, Home could set the trend for a slew of other similar bars.
As the buzz grows about Home, it's attracting more and more visitors from all around the city. The jukebox, with artists ranging from Frank Sinatra to Ricky Martin with Billy Idol and Tim McGraw to boot, offers a diverse mix of music for an eclectic crowd. And most importantly, Home has Ms. Pac Man and Golden Tee games!
Paying their respect to charitable causes, Home hosts occasional candle parties at which Michael Haase and Tammy Kaczmarek, a Milwaukee woman whose breast cancer in remission, sell their Surviving Scents hand-made candles. For each candle sold, $1 goes to Tammy's Breast Cancer Research Fund. The candles, some of which are set in martini and margarita glasses, can be purchased at the bar or at www.survivingscents.com.
Open seven days a week, Home opens Monday-Saturday at 3 p.m. and Sunday at noon. On Sundays, there's a build-your-own Bloody Mary bar and on Mondays, martinis are only $4. Happy Hour, 3-7 p.m., knocks a dollar off drink prices.
As a new bar with ears open to the desires of their customers, Home also hosts occasional tastings of import beers, wines and tequilas and buy their stock in accordance with their customers' suggestions.
As spring nears and the weather warms, Home plans to open a large beer garden. Live jazz shows and a pub crawl are also in the works. To phone Home, call (414) 483-HOME.
