If you've remotely had a finger on the pulse of theater, you know that "Hamilton" is the hottest thing to hit Broadway since the invention of the spotlight.
Lin-Manuel Miranda's musical, telling the historical story of Alexander Hamilton with a spirited injection of hip-hop and contemporary dialogue, has taken the theater world by storm – despite the fact that it's seemingly impossible for most mere mortals to see it. Tickets for its sole venue in New York are pretty much sold out until the presidential election, and the day-of-performance lotteries for tickets block traffic.
Meanwhile, the rest of the nation has been happily stuck living vicariously through its cast recording.
Until now!
This afternoon, the Chicago Tribune reported that the hit musical will begin its first national tour right here in the Midwest on Sept. 27, 2016 at Chicago's Bank of America Theatre, with an extended run that could go up to two years. The West Coast will also get in on the "Hamilton" craze with a second company set to perform in Los Angeles and San Francisco.
"I’m going to bring to Chicago a production of the same size, volume and quality as the one at the Richard Rodgers Theatre in New York," said lead producer Jeffrey Seller in an interview with the Chicago Tribune.
Sadly, the Tribune piece notes that Lin-Manuel Miranda, the man behind the music, lyrics and book as well as its star, isn't likely to travel along to Chicago's run, and there's no word yet on when the national tour will eventually branch out – possibly to Milwaukee. Probably not for a while, but still, the show is now closer than ever – and with performances you'll actually be able to buy tickets for (for about two minutes before they all sell out as well).

As much as it is a gigantic cliché to say that one has always had a passion for film, Matt Mueller has always had a passion for film. Whether it was bringing in the latest movie reviews for his first grade show-and-tell or writing film reviews for the St. Norbert College Times as a high school student, Matt is way too obsessed with movies for his own good.
When he's not writing about the latest blockbuster or talking much too glowingly about "Piranha 3D," Matt can probably be found watching literally any sport (minus cricket) or working at - get this - a local movie theater. Or watching a movie. Yeah, he's probably watching a movie.
