’Tis Dining Month, the tastiest time of year! This means we’re dishing up fun and fascinating food content throughout October. Dig in, Milwaukee!
OnMilwaukee's Molly Snyder is on a mission during Dining Month to find the best gyros in Milwaukee. Dare we say she’s “On The Lamb” this October?

This family-owned store opened in 1970 as a Greek grocer. Now, they carry thousands of food items from Italy, Serbia, Croatia, Germany, France, the Baltic region and more. But we went there for one reason: to try their gyro.
Parthenon has a deli counter with sandwiches to go. The gyro, which comes a la carte, is a mere $4.99. Sides are available from the deli case.
We left Parthenon with our gyros, along with a couple bottles of Greek wine, cheeses and olives, and headed home to dig in. The sandwich, wrapped in foil and paper, was still hot after our 15-minute commute.
Parthenon's gyro comes on the standard, puffy, grilled pita bread, but the meat is pleasingly different from others we've tried. It's highly flavorful, with forward flavors of pepper and cumin, and shaved thinner then we've had before. The meat serving was perfect – enough to fill us up, but also not so much that we couldn't fold the sandwich in half which is our preferred way of eating it.
The gyro came topped with red onion and tomato, with a juicy pepperoncini on the side, and a slightly thicker Tzatziki sauce.
Due to the freshness, the easy-to-eat factor and the low price, we will definitely try this one again. We also ranked Parthenon's above our gyro last week from The Gyro Stand.
"We make our gyros with love," says Parthenon deli worker, Adam Heidenreich.
