Have an insatiable hunger for film and food? The Milwaukee Film Festival might just have the dish.
This morning, the Milwaukee Film Festival announced a new food-themed program for its 2014 edition, called Film Feast. The festival has cooked up eight mouth-watering cinematic selections, ranging in genre and topic. Everything – from documentaries to dramas, slow food, Chinese food, Indian food and wine – is on the menu.
For its first inaugural Film Feast, the Milwaukee Film Festival's picks include:
- "A Year in Burgundy," a documentary about several families of winemakers that should please anyone who was a fan of last year's wine-themed "Somm."
- "Cesar's Grill," a documentary about a distant father and son tandem trying to save the family restaurant.
- "Paulette," a French comedy that combines a pastry chef with cannabis dealing.
- "Slow Food Story," which – in case the title was too vague – tells the story of slow food, a new Italian food tradition in response to the increase of fast food in the country; "Soul of a Banquet," a documentary focused on legendary Chinese chef Cecilia Chiang.
- "Soul Food Stories," the story of a town of various backgrounds brought together by great food.
- "The Starfish Throwers," about a retired schoolteacher, a middle school student and a respected Indian chef fighting to end world hunger.
- "Zone Pro Site: A Moveable Feast," a Taiwanese hit about a struggling model hoping to set things right by winning a cooking contest.
The collection of films – presented by The Bartolotta Restaurants and media sponsored by OnMilwaukee.com – is sure to be a cinematic and culinary treat. Bit of advice: We recommend eating beforehand, lest you start gnawing your armrest midway through a movie.
The 2014 Milwaukee Film Festival runs from Sept. 25 through Oct. 9 at the Oriental Theater, the Downer Theater, the Fox Bay Cinema and the newly added Times Cinema.
