The last time Brett Favre started a National Football League game on the sidelines was Sept. 20, 1992.

Don Majkowski started that game for the Green Bay Packers, who were hosting the Cincinnati Bengals at Lambeau Field. When Majikowski went down with an injury, Favre came in and led the Packers to a comeback victory after a 35-yard touchdown pass to Kitrick Taylor with 13 seconds to play.

The next week, Favre was in the starting lineup for the Packers and would remain there for the next 252 games before his acrimonious divorce from the franchise after the 2007 season.

That streak -- now at 297 games after two-plus years with the New York Jets and Minnesota Vikings -- comes to an end tonight in Detroit, where Favre's Vikings are to play the New York Giants.

A sprained right shoulder, suffered last week against the Buffalo Bills, landed the 41-year-old on the inactive list and putting Tarvarias Jackson into the starting lineup.

Including the postseason, Favre has started 321 games and his the all-time NFL leader in touchdown passes, completions, attempts, yards and interceptions.

He has said that this season, his 20th, would be his last.
