The Packers played their best game of the season, top to bottom, when they pounded Indianapolis by a 34-14 margin Sunday afternoon at Lambeau Field.

Quarterback Aaron Rodgers outplayed Colts superstar Peyton Manning.

Green Bay's defense was aggressive and intense. Running back Ryan Grant reminded everyone why they liked him last year.

And, despite all that, everyone was talking about Brett Favre.

Favre, who made headlines and raised eyebrows by calling injured Dallas quarterback Tony Romo last week, was at the center of another controversy Sunday.

Fox's Jay Glazer reported that Favre phoned the Detroit Lions to offer inside information on the Packers before the teams met a few weeks ago. Glazer cited several sources that said that Favre not only spent an hour on the phone with Lions coaches, but he initiated the information exchange by reaching out to Matt Millen, who was the president of the Lions.

There are no rules prohibiting a player in Favre's situation from sharing information with a competitor.

But, it certainly seems shady, vindictive and small.

Many of Favre's supporters, who remain angry at general manager Ted Thompson for handling the messy breakup that sent Favre to the Jets, will say that Favre was justified in his action.

Others will side with the Packers. Some may even suggest that the team should delay any jersey retirement or Ring of Honor plans for Favre indefinitely because of the act.

Until more information comes to light, it's probably wise to avoid snap decisions.

Several Packers players expressed disappointment about the report following their victory Sunday.

The disappointing thing is that they had to talk about it at all.
