Areka Ikeler's Fashion Ninja has been a long-time Bay View destination for those looking for locally made, one-of-a-kind (and often recycled) designs. Although her's was one of the forerunners in Bay View's boutique movement, Ikeler recently picked up and moved from her quaint 2671 S. Kinnickinnic Ave. location to Downtown.
The new Fashion Ninja has set up shop at 315 N. Plankinton Ave., in the Pritzlaff Building. It's open the day after Thanksgiving and its regular house are: Thursdays and Sundays, 2-7 p.m., and Fridays and Saturdays, 12-7 p.m.
The new location still holds monthly sewing classes such as Intro to Clothing Construction, Basic Sewing Machine Operation and Draping. Students can enroll via her Web site, fashionninja.com.
OnMilwaukee.com staff writer Julie Lawrence grew up in Wauwatosa and has lived her whole life in the Milwaukee area.
As any “word nerd” can attest, you never know when inspiration will strike, so from a very early age Julie has rarely been seen sans pen and little notebook. At the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee it seemed only natural that she major in journalism. When OnMilwaukee.com offered her an avenue to combine her writing and the city she knows and loves in late 2004, she knew it was meant to be. Around the office, she answers to a plethora of nicknames, including “Lar,” (short for “Larry,” which is short for “Lawrence”) as well as the mysteriously-sourced “Bill Murray.”
