The Explorium Brewpub is one of more than 200 breweries that have teamed with StacheStrong on a new brew as part of a national campaign in support of the nonprofit, which raises funds and awareness for brain cancer research.
The beer – S.M.A.S.H. for STACHE Pale Ale – released on Tuesday, May 11 will also be available at this weekend’s Explorium beer drive-thru at its Southridge location in Greendale.
S.M.A.S.H. for STACHE Pale Ale is heavy on the Centennial hops and clocks in at 6 percent ABV. S.M.A.S.H. is shorthand for “single malt and single hop.”
“This project is very personal for me and the Explorium Crew,” said The Explorium owner Mike Doble. “We are proud to brew this beer in collaboration with StacheStrong in honor of our friend and Mug Club Member #9, Vince Siegel who succumbed to brain cancer very recently.
“Our hope is that this beer will help raise much needed funds for continued research to help others who are suffering with the ravages of cancer like Vince.”
The new beer will will be only in four-pack 12-ounce cans for $12. Find it at both Explorium locations and at some retailers, as well as the drive-thru, which is Saturday, May 15, from 11 a.m. until to 2 p.m.
A dollar from each can will benefit StacheStrong.
Also available at the drive-thru will be Orange Cream Ale, Hoppy Pilz, Damn! That’s Good Double IPA, Lost in the Sauce VX Barbe Rouge and Cream City Crusher.
More than 200 breweries nationwide are brewing the collaborative ale, including Great Dane, La Crosse, Working Draft, Kenosha Brewing and a few others in Wisconsin.
The original recipe was written by Colorado-based Oskar Blues Brewery and is brewed in May to mark Brain Cancer Awareness Month.

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., where he lived until he was 17, Bobby received his BA-Mass Communications from UWM in 1989 and has lived in Walker's Point, Bay View, Enderis Park, South Milwaukee and on the East Side.
He has published three non-fiction books in Italy – including one about an event in Milwaukee history, which was published in the U.S. in autumn 2010. Four more books, all about Milwaukee, have been published by The History Press.
With his most recent band, The Yell Leaders, Bobby released four LPs and had a songs featured in episodes of TV's "Party of Five" and "Dawson's Creek," and films in Japan, South America and the U.S. The Yell Leaders were named the best unsigned band in their region by VH-1 as part of its Rock Across America 1998 Tour. Most recently, the band contributed tracks to a UK vinyl/CD tribute to the Redskins and collaborated on a track with Italian novelist Enrico Remmert.
He's produced three installments of the "OMCD" series of local music compilations for OnMilwaukee.com and in 2007 produced a CD of Italian music and poetry.
In 2005, he was awarded the City of Asti's (Italy) Journalism Prize for his work focusing on that area. He has also won awards from the Milwaukee Press Club.
He has be heard on 88Nine Radio Milwaukee talking about his "Urban Spelunking" series of stories, in that station's most popular podcast.
