In 2009, Ex Fabula launched its first event and since then, the competitive storytelling and community-building non-profit has hosted more than a thousand events.
Their mission? To create spaces where community members can build storytelling skill and confidence, speak their truths and learn from each other. They've done this – and continue to do so – through competitive StorySlams in venues all over Milwaukee county; public and private storytelling workshops; affinity group storytelling efforts like the Deaf Stories Project and Youth Affinity Storytelling; collaborations like AfterDark: For the Culture, a partnership with HYFIN that centers Black and Brown voices; and Real Stories MKE radio show and podcast.
And now, it's time to party.
Ex Fabula – which means “from stories” in Latin – will celebrate the milestone with a birthday bash on Thursday, March 21 at The Cooperage, 822 S. Water St. The fun starts at 6 p.m.
Since crystal is a traditional 15th-anniversary gift, this event will shine a sparkly light on Ex Fabula’s accomplishments and the people who have made it possible. Attendees are welcome to dress however they like, but glittery outfits and accents are especially welcome.
The evening will include snacks, drinks, music, brief performance, an auction and booths with interactive games to create low-pressure ways for attendees to connect with friends and strangers.
Tickets are available at www.exfabula.org/party. Ex Fabula aims to keep their events accessible so tickets range from $35 to $150. Spanish and ASL interpretation will be available.
Molly Snyder started writing and publishing her work at the age 10, when her community newspaper printed her poem, "The Unicorn.” Since then, she's expanded beyond the subject of mythical creatures and written in many different mediums but, nearest and dearest to her heart, thousands of articles for OnMilwaukee.
Molly is a regular contributor to FOX6 News and numerous radio stations as well as the co-host of "Dandelions: A Podcast For Women.” She's received five Milwaukee Press Club Awards, served as the Pfister Narrator and is the Wisconsin State Fair’s Celebrity Cream Puff Eating Champion of 2019.
