Love brunch? How about brunch for dinner?
Scratch that. How about a crazy '80s and '90s cereal-themed brunch for dinner on Monday night?
Beginning Monday, Jan. 8 at 5 p.m., you can experience just that at Vermuteria 600, the bar at Hotel Madrid, 600 S. 6th St. This brunch is unlike any other you’ve seen.
Meant to conjure memories of the days when you sat in your pajamas watching Saturday morning cartoons while eating sugary cereal and pop-tarts, Spiked Cereal offers up an adult wonderland of cereal-infused milk cocktails and '80s- and '90s-themed dishes from the minds of Beverage Director Daniel Beres and Culinary Director Matt Kerley.
Cereal-infused fun
Offerings will include options like "fun dip" featuring foie gras pops, pop rocks, dehydrated blueberries and strawberry dust ($18); McDougal’s hotcake breakfast featuring two hotcakes, scrambled eggs, hash browns and a sausage patty ($12).
Taste the magic of "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" with Michaelangelo pizza bites featuring Hawaiian pizza bagels served up with a fried egg ($10); or bath in peanut-buttery bliss with Leggo My Eggo Cap’n featuring half of a game hen prepared with a Cap’n Crunch crust and served with honey butter, maple syrup and freezer waffles ($16). There’s will also be fried oatmeal croquettas with Fruity Pebbles, Cocoa Puffs, Cinnamon Toast Crunch and Corn Flakes crust ($9).
On the cocktail side, there will be Bloody Marys with your choice of vodka, gin or tequila ($9) and mimosas ($7) along with fun riffs like milk punch featuring bourbon, Cookie Crisp-infused whole milk, amaretto, bitters, Sprecher Cream Soda and nutmeg ($12) and an "Old Fashioned" shake with brandy, orange liqueur, Purple Door Wisconsin Brandy Old Fashioned Ice cream, Angostura bitters, black cherry, whipped cream and sprinkles ($13). A creative hot toddy, Manhattan and martini will also be available (priced $11-15).
"It’s as if my childhood dream of eating brunch for dinner while watching episodes of ‘He-Man’ came true... in the form of this popup," says owner Andrei Mikhail.
Spiked Cereal will take place on Monday evenings from 5 to 10 p.m.; no reservations will be accepted. A full dinner menu will be available at Bodegon (right next door). For more information, visit spikedcereal.com.
