October is the fourth-annual Dining Month on OnMilwaukee.com. All month, we're stuffed with restaurant reviews, delicious features, chef profiles, unique articles on everything food, as well as the winners of our "Best of Dining 2010."

How does this news compare with your dining out habits, Milwaukee?

Nation’s Restaurant News yesterday reported that restaurant transactions were up in September over last September, but check averages were down. Basically, we're going out more but spending less.

First Data, a payment-processing firm, found that September’s year-over-year dollar volume grew 7.6 percent, down slightly from August’s 7.9-percent growth rate. Transactions grew 9.2 percent from a year earlier, compared with August’s 8.3-percent rise in transactions.

Yet, average bills were down 1.5 percent compared to 2009 spending.

Not sure how important this is, but it’s Dining Month so it’s news.
