Since the start of this pandemic, OnMilwaukee has celebrated happy hour as best as we can with virtual Facebook Live hangouts on Thursdays at 5 p.m. – because while we may have temporarily lost our community centers, we shouldn't lose our sense of community.
Many of our happy hour sessions come with guests from around Milwaukee, but yesterday's happy hour starred two particularly special guests: Judge Derek Mosley, who recently survived an intense life-or-death bout against COVID-19, and Christin Lissmann, one of the ICU nurses at Froedtert who helped Mosley fight through the virus with medical expertise as well as human connection and empathy.
It was a heartfelt hour-long conversation of laughs, tears and – not surprising if you know Mosley well – foodie talk. And in case you missed it, here's the full Facebook Live:
A cheers to Judge Mosley and his family, to Christin Lissmann and the rest of the frontline workers putting their lives on the line for us, to all those who join in our Thursday happy hours, and to everyone out there staying home and staying healthy. We're all in this together, Milwaukee. (And for those looking for a good cause to donate to during these hard times, here's a list of some causes that could use our help.)
As much as it is a gigantic cliché to say that one has always had a passion for film, Matt Mueller has always had a passion for film. Whether it was bringing in the latest movie reviews for his first grade show-and-tell or writing film reviews for the St. Norbert College Times as a high school student, Matt is way too obsessed with movies for his own good.
When he's not writing about the latest blockbuster or talking much too glowingly about "Piranha 3D," Matt can probably be found watching literally any sport (minus cricket) or working at - get this - a local movie theater. Or watching a movie. Yeah, he's probably watching a movie.
