Country Thunder returned to Twin Lakes this year and, to no one’s surprise, was another unforgettable four-day celebration of country music, camaraderie and summer fun. Fans from all over Wisconsin and Illinois gathered to witness some of the biggest names in country music take the stage and deliver performances that ranged from heartwarming to electrifying. With the beautiful backdrop of Twin Lakes, the festival provided the perfect setting for fans to immerse themselves in a weekend filled with great music, delicious food and a vibrant community atmosphere.
This year's festival had its fair share of surprises and memorable moments, from last-minute changes to standout performances. Headliners like Lainey Wilson and Nickelback brought their A-game, while other artists like Kip Moore and Bailey Zimmerman ensured that every day of the festival was packed with excitement. Whether you were a longtime country music fan or new to the genre, Country Thunder Wisconsin had something for everyone.
Here are eight reasons why this year's festival was an event you shouldn't have missed.
1. Lainey Wilson’s upgrade
Lainey Wilson has had an incredible year, and her headlining performance on Friday night was proof of her skyrocketing popularity – and why she went from a supporting act at Country Thunder to a headliner in just one year. With a massive crowd and electrifying energy, Wilson delivered a performance that festival fans will be talking about for years.
2. Nickelback rocks at country festivals
Saturday night saw Nickelback headlining and embracing their unexpected but welcomed presence at a country music festival. Their humorous banter about continually being asked to perform at such events and their promise to keep coming back added a unique and entertaining twist to the evening. Chad Kroeger and company delivered all the hits and easily won over the country music fans in Twin Lakes.
3. Bailey Zimmerman's return
Rising country star Bailey Zimmerman returned to Country Thunder Wisconsin with an even bigger following. His set before Nickelback on Saturday night drew a massive crowd, showcasing his growing popularity and solidifying his place as a fan favorite. With an unmatched energy, Zimmerman was as excited to be on stage as his fans were to see him perform.
4. Kip Moore: Radiohead stan
Kip Moore surprised the audience on Friday night with an incredible cover of Radiohead's "Creep." This unexpected rendition, especially by a country artist, was a highlight of the night, showing Moore's versatility and ability to captivate the crowd. During the show, Moore also shared his humble beginnings in Wisconsin, having first performed in the state at Summerfest for a crowd of less than 30 fans. Fast forward a few years later and he had the attention of thousands at Country Thunder.
5. Lainey takes us to the box office
One of the most anticipated performances of the festival was Lainey Wilson’s performance of her new single from the brand new "Twister" sequel, "Twisters." This marked one of the first times Wilson performed the track live, and the crowd spun in their seats hearing it performed in person.
6. The festival atmosphere
Country Thunder Wisconsin is known for its incredible atmosphere, and this year was no exception. From the friendly crowd to the vibrant campsite setups and of course enjoying live music on a farm, the sense of community and celebration was palpable throughout the entire event.
7. Eric Church's Sunday service
Closing out the festival on Sunday, Eric Church delivered a powerful performance that felt almost like a Sunday service. His charismatic stage presence and heartfelt songs provided the perfect finale to an amazing weekend of music. Church always delivers at Country Thunder, and this year was certainly no exception.
8. A musically diverse lineup
This year's festival featured a diverse lineup that catered to a wide range of musical tastes. From traditional country artists to more rock-oriented acts like Nickelback, there was something for everyone to enjoy. While of course it’s a festival dedicated to a single genre, this year’s lineup was especially varied.
