After a lot of hard work on the part of owner Sarah Dusseau, Cafe One24, 3705 N. 124th St., will offer fine dining across the hall from a Culver's and next to a Chipotle on the eastern edge of Brookfield.
The location, just south of Capitol Drive, is across the street from the northwestern edge of Tosa. The restaurant will be an oasis of organic ingredients and gourmet dishes in an area dominated by fast food.
Dusseau will build her dinner service dishes on ingredients from the likes of Wisconsin Grass Fed Beef Cooperative, Sweetwater Organics and Growing Power.
Only open for dinner, Cafe One24 will also have a wine bar. It is open Tuesday through Saturday at 4:30 p.m. and closes at 10 p.m. except on Friday and Saturday when it's open until 11.
Though the cafe gave some diners previews, Cafe One24 officially opens on Wednesday, Jan. 4.
On the menu, expect to see apps like a Wisconsin cheese plate, sweet potato and wild mushroom flatbreads, crostini, mussels and more.
There is a range of sandwiches that run from $8 (portobello) to $12 (pulled chicken sliders), salads and soups from $7 (cafe salad, chili, soup of the day) to $14 (seared flank stead salad).
Entrees include seared scallops with mango and corn salsa and Nueske's bacon with Sweetwater Organics microgreens ($25), butternut squash ravioli with sage and goat cheese pan sauce ($13), a fresh fish of the day from nearby Empire Fish and others.
Cafe One24 will definitely fill a void in its neighborhood. Here's to Dusseau and her team!
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., where he lived until he was 17, Bobby received his BA-Mass Communications from UWM in 1989 and has lived in Walker's Point, Bay View, Enderis Park, South Milwaukee and on the East Side.
He has published three non-fiction books in Italy – including one about an event in Milwaukee history, which was published in the U.S. in autumn 2010. Four more books, all about Milwaukee, have been published by The History Press.
With his most recent band, The Yell Leaders, Bobby released four LPs and had a songs featured in episodes of TV's "Party of Five" and "Dawson's Creek," and films in Japan, South America and the U.S. The Yell Leaders were named the best unsigned band in their region by VH-1 as part of its Rock Across America 1998 Tour. Most recently, the band contributed tracks to a UK vinyl/CD tribute to the Redskins and collaborated on a track with Italian novelist Enrico Remmert.
He's produced three installments of the "OMCD" series of local music compilations for OnMilwaukee.com and in 2007 produced a CD of Italian music and poetry.
In 2005, he was awarded the City of Asti's (Italy) Journalism Prize for his work focusing on that area. He has also won awards from the Milwaukee Press Club.
He has be heard on 88Nine Radio Milwaukee talking about his "Urban Spelunking" series of stories, in that station's most popular podcast.
