The Marcus Center for the Performing Arts announced its new Broadway Across America -- Milwaukee series for 2008-'09.

It includes the Wisconsin premiere of "Oprah Winfrey Presents The Color Purple," "Happy Days -- A New Musical," set in Milwaukee and based on the beloved television series, "A Bronx Tale" starring Oscar-nominated Chazz Palminteri, the 30th anniversary production of "A Chorus Line" and the Milwaukee return of "The Phantom of the Opera."

"Oprah Winfrey's The Color Purple" opens the new series Aug. 12-17.   

"Audiences are in for a real treat this season," says Tom Gergerich, Executive Vice President of the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts. "We are thrilled to bring Milwaukee one of Broadway's most spectacular productions, as well as brand new shows and Wisconsin premieres."

A life-long and passionate community leader and Milwaukeean, Jeff Sherman is a co-founder of OnMilwaukee.

He grew up in Wauwatosa and graduated from Marquette University, as a Warrior. He holds an MBA from Cardinal Stritch University, and is the founding president of Young Professionals of Milwaukee (YPM)/Fuel Milwaukee.

He owns a condo in Downtown and lives in greater Milwaukee with his wife Stephanie, his son, Jake, and daughter Pierce. He's a political, music, sports and news junkie and thinks, for what it's worth, that all new movies should be released in theaters, on demand, online and on DVD simultaneously.
