The Milwaukee Brewers have traded All-Star pitcher Yovani Gallardo and cash considerations to the Texas Rangers for right-handed minor league pitchers Corey Knebel and Marcos Diplan and infielder Luis Sardinas.
In a statement, Brewers president of baseball operations and general manager Doug Melvin said Knebel and Sardinas have been added to the Brewers’ 40-man roster and first baseman Hunter Morris has been designated for assignment.
"Yovani has been a huge part of the Brewers organization and has left a mark as one of the best pitchers in franchise history," Melvin said in the statement. "He is a great competitor and professional who will be missed. At the same time, we have added three young and talented players to our organization."
The 28-year-old Gallardo was drafted by the Brewers in second round of the 2004 draft and went 89-64 in eight years in Milwaukee, including a 14-7 mark in 2010 when he made the National League All-Star team.
Last year, Gallardo went just 8-11 in 32 starts but posted a 3.51 earned run average, the lowest mark he’s posted in a full season.

Pitchers and catchers report soon.
Gallardo has also made four postseason starts for the Brewers, going 1-2 with a 2.08 ERA over the 2008 and 2011 division series’ and the 2011 National League Championship Series.
The right-hander is in the final year of five-year, $30.1 million extension he signed in the spring of 2010. He is due to make $13 million this year.
And as for the look of the starting rotation, Rosenthal added:
Also: #Brewers likely want Nelson in rotation even if they get vet to replace Gallardo. Would not include him in trade for Price last July.
