Seven years ago, Greg Landig, the owner of Bomb Shelter and friend to many, passed away unexpectedly from a heart attack.
Jeff Platt, who operated The Suds Club at Bomb Shelter, organized a Bomb Shelter Reunion in memory of Landig on Monday, Oct. 29 from 5 to 10 p.m. It will be in the former Bomb Shelter space, 1517 S. 2nd St., now Dark Horse Tavern.
Landig opened the Bomb Shelter in 2008 in the space that was formerly The Monkey Bar and later The Parlor, Junior's Hook and soon will become Dark Horse Tavern.
Monica DePalma, owner of Monica’s on Astor, recently took over the Junior’s Hook space for Dark Horse Tavern and will also host the Bomb Shelter reunion.
At one point Bomb Shelter offered more than 300 different beers. Landig was also a collector of vintage beer paraphernalia and other local nostalgia items that covered the Bomb Shelter's walls and transformed it into a retro-Milwaukee museum of sorts.
"Greg started two things he cherished – a beer bar and a beer museum," says Platt. "We won't forget that."
