The East Side Open Market makes it even easier for buyers to go green this week. Beyond the loads of fresh, local produce, handmade goods and bakery, tomorrow is "Bike to the Market" day.

The East Side Open Market is held every Thursday in the Beans and Barley parking lot, just east of Milwaukee's Oak Leaf Bike Trail, making it the perfect stop on a summer city bike ride.

In theme with "Bike to the Market" day, Cory the Bike Fixer will be on hand to offer free bike safety checks for riders. In addition, instrumental band Trio du Monde will perform at 5 p.m. and Murray Hill Pottery will demonstrate the ancient art of Raku.

The East Side Open Market is held every Thursday from 3 to 7 p.m. and each weekly market is themed with educational and recreational features of the city.

After living on the east side of Madison for several years, Maureen returned to Milwaukee in 2006.

After a brief stint of travel, Maureen joined OnMilwaukee.com as the city’s oldest intern and has been hooked ever since. Combining her three key infatuations, Milwaukee’s great music, incredible food and inspiring art (and yes, in that order), Maureen’s job just about fits her perfectly.

Residing in Bay View, Maureen vehemently believes the city can become fresh and new with a simple move across town.
