The Bicycle Federation of Wisconsin (BFW), a statewide, nonprofit, bicycle advocacy organization with more than 2,700 members, throws a Love Your Bike party this Friday, Feb. 1.
The party is about building community and working to make Wisconsin a better place to bicycle through education and advocacy. It welcomes bikers all of kinds, from racers, to recreational riders, to mountain bikers to commuters.
The party, at 144 N. Jefferson St. from 7 to 10:30 p.m., includes bike-themed art by local artists Peter DiAntoni, Eric Von Munz and Harvey Opgenorth, a silent auction for bike gear and food and drinks from Beans & Barley, Wisconsin Cheese Mart and Benno's Bar & Grill.
It costs $10 or is free with a first-time purchase of a BFW membership.
OnMilwaukee.com staff writer Julie Lawrence grew up in Wauwatosa and has lived her whole life in the Milwaukee area.
As any “word nerd” can attest, you never know when inspiration will strike, so from a very early age Julie has rarely been seen sans pen and little notebook. At the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee it seemed only natural that she major in journalism. When OnMilwaukee.com offered her an avenue to combine her writing and the city she knows and loves in late 2004, she knew it was meant to be. Around the office, she answers to a plethora of nicknames, including “Lar,” (short for “Larry,” which is short for “Lawrence”) as well as the mysteriously-sourced “Bill Murray.”
