The votes are in, and the winners have been selected for OnMilwaukee's Best Dining 2009. The results of this readers' poll, including an editors' pick, are available in this series of articles that run all October long during Dining Month on OnMilwaukee.com.
Milwaukee’s vegetarian dining options expanded in the past decade, and yet, the classic East Side establishment Beans & Barley gets the gold. Beans opened in 1979 in its current location, but the structure was rebuilt in 1993 after a massive fire.
Beans is open seven days a week for breakfast, lunch and dinner. It serves up a variety of veggie items, including the tempeh reuben, grilled cheese, balsamic tofu sandwich, grilled vegetable sandwich and Mexican dishes like burritos and quesadillas. The menu also features poultry options.
Beans’ prices are affordable, with nothing on the menu more than $9.
