The votes are in, and the winners have been selected for OnMilwaukee's Best Dining 2008. The results of this readers' poll, including an editors' pick, are available in this series of articles that run all October long during Dining Month on OnMilwaukee.com.

October is Dining Month on OnMilwaukee.com. All month, we're stuffed with restaurant reviews, special features, chef profiles and unique articles on everything food. Bon appetit!

Both OnMilwaukee.com's readers and its editorial staff agree: Brocach, 1850 N. Water St., is the best restaurant to open in Milwaukee in the last year.

With a genuine Irish ambience, diners in the non-smoking section will find themselves traveling upstairs to an intimate dining area and bar with fireplace, and seating is close and cozy; smokers are welcomed to dine and drink on the first floor of the vibrant building.

The exterior façade looks like a photo of Dublin, and the bright red woodwork shines like a beacon allowing Commerce Street neighbors across the river to see the pub.

As for food, expect Gaelic-inspired favorites like shepherd's pie, Berkshire pork chop, and of course, the Big Irish Breakfast.

Brocach may not be a Milwaukee exclusive, but its great location and attention to important detail make it a welcome addition to the dining and drinking landscape.
