The votes are in, and the winners have been selected for OnMilwaukee's Best Dining 2008. The results of this readers' poll, including an editors' pick, are available in this series of articles that run all October long during Dining Month on OnMilwaukee.com.
October is Dining Month on OnMilwaukee.com. All month, we're stuffed with restaurant reviews, special features, chef profiles and unique articles on everything food. Bon appetit!
For the second year in a row, Roots Restaurant in Brewers Hill claims the OnMilwaukee.com reader winning prize for décor.
Roots’ method of design replicates its approach to food: sustainable, earthy and comfortable. Simple glass cylinder vases filled with single wild flowers rest on curved edge wooden tables. The large eastern facing windows add a natural element of reflective light, painting interior walls with glistening sunlight.
In the Cellar downstairs, an ironworks roots sculpture covers the ceiling. The lengths of metal intertwine across the ceiling, occasionally twisting downward, giving diners the illusion of being underground. A long bar runs the Cellar’s length and is complimented by low level, hanging light fixtures.
Whether diners are enjoying the indoor décor or the outdoor patio, Roots does wonders by insisting on natural simplicity.
