Ask 10 people what they consider "comfort food" and you're likely to get about a dozen different answers.

No matter what your idea of comfort food may be, it's all along the same lines: familar, tasty and often, no-frills ... comfortable.

Of the 15 candidates for Milwaukee's Best Comfort Food, there were three -- Maxie's Southern Comfort, Comet Cafe and defending champion Kopps's -- that pulled away from the pack but ultimately, it's was Maxie's that pulled ahead with the top honor.

A little more than three years since opening in what was once a butcher/grocery store at 6732 W. Fairview Ave., Maxie's has emerged as a hot spot on the West Side.

With a menu heavy on southern favorites, barbecue and seafood, Maxie's delivers time and time again.
