The votes are in, and the winners have been selected for OnMilwaukee's Best Dining 2010. The results of this readers' poll, including an editors' pick, are available in this series of articles that run all October long during Dining Month on OnMilwaukee.com.
For the second year, Milwaukee's best-known chef, Sanford "Sandy" D'Amato has edged out Adam Siegel as best chef in the OnMilwaukee.com Best Dining 2010 readers' poll.
In the biggest change over the past year, D'Amato has sold Coquette Cafe to a rising local chef, Nick Burki and is concentrating on Sanford, 1547 N. Jackson St., which he operates along with his wife, Angie.
A 1974 graduate of the Culinary Institute of America, he returned to his hometown in 1980 to go to work in the kitchen at John Byron's. By the mid-1980s, D'Amato was named one of the nation's 25 "Hot New Chefs."
D'Amato opened his Sanford in what had been a family-owned grocery store nine years later.
