The votes are in and the winners have been selected for OnMilwaukee's Best: Bars & Clubs, 2010. Find readers' results in 50 categories, including an editors' pick, in this series of articles that run daily in the Bars and Clubs section of OnMilwaukee.com.
It's difficult to pinpoint when or how it started, but at some point during the past generation it became trendy for folks in the city to bash the suburbs for -- among other things -- a lack of diversity, excitement and decent watering holes.
Attention "cool" people: Hundreds of OnMilwaukee.com readers beg to differ.
The battle for top honors in our "Best Suburban Bar" category was stiffer than most drinks served at hipster hangouts. In a close race, Shorewood Village Pub captured the honors.
(We should point out that perennial champion Leff's Lucky Town, wasn't listed among the contestants this season because there was a new category for Wauwatosa bars this year. Leff's did receive a considerable number of write-in votes.)
The cozy and comfortable bar, located at 4488 N. Oakland Ave., has been a gathering spot in Shorewood for generations and the walls practically drip with history.
If that's not enough to entertain you, open a book, utilize the free wi-fi service, order a sandwich or some wings, drain a few cold ones and -- if the mood strikes you -- talk to some of the more interesting bar patrons in the area.
After a couple rounds at the Pub or one of its worthy runners-up, you might realize that the suburbs aren't so bad, after all.
