The Batterman Ensemble of the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music's Jazz Institute has been selected as a finalist to compete in the Charles Mingus High School Jazz Competition in New York City.

This is the second year in a row that the ensemble has been chosen for this honor.  The competition takes place Feb. 15-17. The Batterman Ensemble will be one of four groups competing in the Combo-Specialized Schools and Programs category.

The Jazz Institute will present the Batterman Ensemble in concert at the Helen Bader Recital Hall, 1584 N. Prospect Ave., on Feb. 13 at 7 p.m. All proceeds will help fund the ensemble's trip to New York City. A $7 minimum donation is suggested.
