On Wednesday, OnMilwaukee broke the news that ax throwing – a new sport that’s popular in other states and countries – might make it to Milwaukee. Well, scratch that "might."

Yesterday, the City of Milwaukee’s Board of Zoning Appeals granted Becky Cooper Clancy and Ryan Clancy, the owners of Bounce, permission to expand their facility to include 10 ax throwing lanes.

Construction will start immediately and Cooper Clancy says the project should be completed by mid-to-late winter. The construction will not affect Bounce's hours of operation or other facility offerings which include inflatables, laser tag, a vintage video arcade and more.

"It's so much less build out than our original construction, and it's a relief we'll still be able to accommodate our guests with minimal impact," says Cooper Clancy. "Nothing with construction ever runs completely smoothly, but we should be running as normal 99 percent of the time."

Ax throwing is similar to darts, in which the competitor throws an ax at a target, attempting to hit the bull's-eye. Traditionally it was an event at lumberjack competitions, but today there are commercial locations in Canada, the United Kingdom and the United States, including two in Chicago.

"Milwaukee is the perfect location for ax throwing with our history of outdoorsmanship and league sports like bowling and darts," says Cooper Clancy.
