I met a friend at the Sherman Phoenix to introduce her to the new development and show her around. With just a coffee and an impulse buy of a cowboy cookie in hand, I felt content. As my friend and I sat chatting, a server walked by to deliver a plate of avocado toast topped with fresh strawberries to table of women nearby – and suddenly the moment became a real-life recreation of a "look back at it" meme with my cowboy cookie quickly pushed aside.
Within seconds, I was back at the register ordering the same.
The barista informed me that you can customize your avocado toast with strawberries, blueberries, blackberries and other fruit options as they are available. I ordered mine with pomegranate.
The hearty, colorful plate is filling and packed with the healthy fats of avocado to reduce the risk of heart attacks and lowering cholesterol. Avocado is also packed with folate and potassium to combat depression – perfect for possibly lifting those Wisconsin winter blues. Pomegranate has an equally impressive list of benefits, such as anti-aging, memory improvement and anti-cancer agents. And most important of all, the vegetarian-approved pomegranate avocado toast is Snapchat/Instagram-worthy with its vibrant reds and greens.
To accompany my toast, I ordered a turmeric ginger apple shot that complimented the sweet taste of the pomegranate and woody spiciness of the cinnamon sprinkled on top.
Shindig Coffee is located inside the Sherman Phoenix at 3536 W. Fond du Lac Ave. and is open 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday as well as 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. You even get a cool Shindig button as a souvenir – and being the button collector that I am, this was a real treat!
