Wisconsin State Assembly Majority Leader Jim Steineke said today the Assembly will be in July 28 to vote on a public financing plan for a new Milwaukee Bucks arena.

The State Senate passed the package easily last week on a 21-10 vote.

Steineke said that it would be no easy task to get to 50 votes to pass the bill, and Republicans will need the support of 15 to 20 Democrats. Republicans have a 63-36 majority, but many outstate Republicans have pledged to vote against the package.

Steineke also said it was possible that there would be changes to the measure, especially if it meant he could get the votes to pass it. If changes are made then the two houses would meet in a conference committee to hammer out a version which could pass both houses.

Once the legislature passes a bill, Gov. Scott Walker will have to sign it.
