Lilo Allen, owner of Papyrus & Charms, creates culturally conscious wearable art that's inspired by her Afro-Caribbean ancestry and her love for crystals, wood and shells.
"Each piece is made so that someone can see a piece of themselves in what I create," says Allen.
Papyrus & Charms is part of The Bronzeville Collective MKE that, until recently, has an open-to-the-public shop. Since then, Allen has relied solely on online sales for income.
"As a full-time creative, this has been a big blow to my ability to stay afloat," says Allen.

"I know we’re all worried about how this pandemic will affect us in the future. I just implore you all to think about local small businesses and support them with intention during these difficult times. Your support can be so positively impactful for us," says Allen.
Molly Snyder started writing and publishing her work at the age 10, when her community newspaper printed her poem, "The Unicorn.” Since then, she's expanded beyond the subject of mythical creatures and written in many different mediums but, nearest and dearest to her heart, thousands of articles for OnMilwaukee.
Molly is a regular contributor to FOX6 News and numerous radio stations as well as the co-host of "Dandelions: A Podcast For Women.” She's received five Milwaukee Press Club Awards, served as the Pfister Narrator and is the Wisconsin State Fair’s Celebrity Cream Puff Eating Champion of 2019.
