While the Northeast prepares for a monumental blizzard, Milwaukee received news this morning of a different – and much more enjoyable and productive – kind of impending flurry: a musical onslaught by the name of Arte Para Todos (meaning "art for everyone").

The brand new event is a weekend-long local music extravaganza running from Friday, Feb. 27 through Sunday, March 1, with 70 bands and 15 artists spread across three neighborhoods – Bay View, Riverwest and the East Side – and 15 venues.

If that sounds cool, its motives (besides providing a ton of music) are even more so as 100 percent of the proceeds from the three-day festival will be split equally amongst three Milwaukee schools – Bay View High School, Tamarack Waldorf High School and La Escuela Fratney – to go toward funding art programs.

According to the event's official website, Arte Para Todos was created "as an answer to the defunding of art and music programming in schools, but it also serves as a replicable model of sustainable service to the community. We will always have the city we ask for, either explicitly or through apathy and inaction. Arte Para Todos is based on the idea that culture is an act of will, and that if we want a healthy, vibrant city where the arts can flourish then we have to act on that desire."

In case being a fine patron of the arts isn't enough, here's the loaded slate of local bands and artists scheduled for the event's inaugural year:

Great local music for a great local cause? That's a flurry I can get behind.

As much as it is a gigantic cliché to say that one has always had a passion for film, Matt Mueller has always had a passion for film. Whether it was bringing in the latest movie reviews for his first grade show-and-tell or writing film reviews for the St. Norbert College Times as a high school student, Matt is way too obsessed with movies for his own good.

When he's not writing about the latest blockbuster or talking much too glowingly about "Piranha 3D," Matt can probably be found watching literally any sport (minus cricket) or working at - get this - a local movie theater. Or watching a movie. Yeah, he's probably watching a movie.
