When I first saw on Facebook that a place called ArtBar Kenosha was opening, I wondered if Don Krause, owner of the Art Bar in Riverwest, was opening another location in K-Town. It turns out, he's not.
Yesterday, I caught up with ArtBar Kenosha co-owner Chris Buerger, and he confirmed that his place has no connection to the Milwaukee bar of the same name.
Buerger, who is from Oklahoma, says when he originally named the bar he was not aware of the other Art Bar. He decided to keep the name after he learned of the Art Bar in Milwaukee.
ArtBar Kenosha, 5301 22nd Ave., will open on Friday, June 24. The new establishment is a bar, art gallery, artists' space and soon, a restaurant. For now, ArtBar will only serve pizza. The space features permanent installation pieces and will host temporary art shows as well. Space for filmmakers will also be available.
"We're going to dabble into a little bit of everything," says Buerger.
ArtBar Kenosha will be open Fridays from 4 p.m. to close; Saturdays from 6 p.m. to close and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. On the second Sunday of every month, ArtBar Kenosha will host a private party for people working in the service industry from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m.
"You have to show a ticket stub from your service industry job to get in," says Buerger.
