MILWAUKEE – After a full week of judging in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. the Associated Press Sports Editors (APSE) has selected an OnMilwaukee.com original story, "Who is Montaous Walton?" as one of the top national investigative stories in sports for 2012.
OnMilwaukee.com and staff writer Jim Owczarski join the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, USA Today, Yahoo! Sports, the New York Daily News and four others as winners.
This is the first APSE award for OnMilwaukee.com, a Milwaukee-based digital media company and publisher. It was accepted into the APSE in October by a 20-1 vote.
This is the sixth award for Owczarski, who previously captured honors in feature writing, breaking news, project writing and explanatory writing before joining OnMilwaukee.com.
Now in its 31st year, the ASPE contest honors the best sports writing from newspapers and websites across four circulation (or page view) categories. OnMilwaukee.com competed in the largest category, although the Investigative category includes all divisions. The top five places and honorable mentions in the Investigative category will be determined at the 40th annual APSE Conference in Detroit June 26-29.
OnMilwaukee.com is a digital media company that publishes Milwaukee's only daily online magazine and several niche sites. Its mission is to create great media and move Milwaukee forward.
