If you felt the ground shake last night, don't worry; it wasn't an earthquake. It was Alison Wonderland warming up Summerfest for her electrifying DJ set.
The booming bass, complemented by mesmerizing graphics, formed a celestial gateway that immersed the audience in Alison Wonderland's signature blend of bass, chillwave, trap and electronic-soaked airy darkness for her entire hour-long Summerfest set.
The Sydney-born producer, singer and performer is a true DJ, mixing live throughout her entire set. Alison Wonderland’s Summerfest performance seamlessly navigated between genres, linking future bass, hip-hop, trap, rock, house and any other sound that caught her interest. She makes full use of her equipment, back-spinning, scratching, adjusting EQ and more to shape her set. It's less a linear experience and more of a dynamic, living entity.
Through it all, Alison Wonderland is a tiny force of nature, snatching the mic and running toward the front of the Miller Lite Oasis stage, hands thrust forward to throw up her signature W, which the crowd mimicked. Even when standing in place while mixing, she’s incapable of standing still, dancing along with the crowd.
The entire set felt like we had all been transported to the grounds of EDC Las Vegas, the premier electronic dance music festival, even though we were in Milwaukee. It was an EDC-level experience, and the fans felt it.
Instead of standing on the benches as usual at Summerfest shows, everyone was on the ground, dancing with the collective understanding that staying on the ground to dance meant having a better time.
The harmony between the fans and Alison Wonderland was apparent throughout the show. Her music and the fans existed in a kind of synergy all night. Alison Wonderland could feel it, taking a pause during her set to say, “This is the best crowd EVA!”
Throughout the show, Alison Wonderland's passion for connecting with the crowd was apparent. She amped the crowd by incorporating a song requested by a Milwaukee fan via social media, showcasing her dedication to making each performance special and personal.
The crowd danced non-stop all night, right up to the final song. Alison closed with one of her favorites, "Valerie" by Amy Winehouse, creating a harmonious moment where everyone sang along. It was the ideal way to wind down after a night of intense, high-energy dancing.
