Three players from Team Sweden lead a group of seven Milwaukee Admiral alumni who will participate in the World Cup of Hockey, which kicks off in earnest Saturday, Sept. 17 at the Air Canada Center in Toronto.
Forwards Filip Forsberg (Ads alum 2014-15) and Patric Hornqvist (2008-09) along with defenseman Mattias Ekholm (2012-13) will represent Team Sweden in the eight team international tournament that runs from Sept. 17 to Oct. 1. Madison native and current Minnesota Wild defenseman Ryan Suter (2004-05) is the lone Admirals alum playing for Team USA.
In addition to those four, former Admirals Shea Weber (Team Canada), Roman Josi (Team Europe), and Pekka Rinne (Team Finland) will be playing in the WCH. It’s the first time the WCH has been conducted since 2004 and the third time overall.
The Admirals will kick off the 2016-17 home schedule by hosting the Iowa Wild on Saturday, Oct. 29 at 6 p.m. at the UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena.
A complete list of the team’s promotions and entertainment, including the popular Admirals concert series and bobbleheads giveaways, will be announced soon.
